Margaret Crutchley - 2024

‘A painter who distils the essence of a landscape’: Margaret loves the countryside and enjoys using oil or acrylic paint to produce an individual interpretation of a beautiful or dramatic location. By means of simplification, good composition, bold colour and expressive marks on paper or canvas, she concentrates the visual and emotional experience of the scene. Bright light often contrasts with darker areas, perhaps under trees, which often feature in her work. Sometimes bordering on the abstract, her paintings still have a strong connection to the land.

She has twice had work accepted for the annual exhibition of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, has exhibited twice at the annual exhibition of the Royal Watercolour Society, as well as at Linden Hall Studio, Kent and the Guildford Open. Her work has been shown in the Hertford Open exhibition and the Artsdepot Open, where she won a prize for a portrait. She is a member of Studio Fridays and The London Painters and Sculptors Group.
