Iiris Whitehead - 2022
A self-taught artist, Iiris Whitehead specialises in chalk and pastel drawings. Her childhood was spent in Finland and the United States. Despite living in England for over 20 years, the Finnish psyche emerges from her pieces.
The topics of solitude, nostalgia, and the fight between good against evil are handled through folkloric and supernatural themes. Often working on black paper or other monochrome palettes to create a mood, her drawings invite us into an etherial realm in a time long forgotten. Her magical world of angels, witches and storybook characters offers flight and repose from the reality of the mundane.
