Clare Hogan - 2022

A love of her home and local area are the main inspiration for Clare’s work. Like many people during lockdown, she discovered a renewed passion for nature through plentiful local walks and was drawn to the layers of undergrowth and plant life. Clare also paints the plants in her home together with familiar, everyday objects.

She has a bold sense of colour and her work is created by building layers of colour, pattern and texture. She makes her own collage papers and is also a big fan of gold leaf! Clare studied Fashion/Textiles at the University of Brighton before carving out a successful career as a textile designer for the fashion market. She then went on to train as a secondary school teacher and has taught art for more than 20 years.

Clare now combines teaching with developing her career as an artist from her hometown of Tring. Clare’s early days as a textile designer has been a big influence on her painting style.
