Stephen Hill - 2022

Hertfordshire based Stephen Hill (Hilly) has been a commercial artist for over twenty years. As well as working on promotional material for large commercial ventures, he has also carved out a niche for himself supplying his instantly recognisable cartoons for various motorcycle magazines under his byline ‘Hilly’. In the last few years he has started to experiment with more art and has had a few successful one man shows. Automotive subjects have proved very popular and has led to permanent displays at Bike Stop in Hertfordshire and at Lotus Silverstone near the circuit entrance.

He loves an old school analogue approach. His go to is pens and paper, markers, watercolours and acrylics on canvas for the big pop art. The bigger the better as he has also completed some interesting mural projects.

Stephen can't help himself, he likes having a laugh at anything and coming up with punny titles (Too much MAD magazine as a kid!) He watches films and Netflix for relaxation, rides bikes for fun and mostly he just enjoys his work. Most of his art is commissioned but his mash up paintings are done for his own amusement and if people get them that’s cool!

Artists that have influenced him include Lichtenstein, Schultz, Walt Disney, Magritte, Warhol, Tony Hart, and dare we mention Rolf? Dali, Da Vinci, but the most influential would be the late Jack Kirby who turned Stan Lees' ideas into Marvel comic books like the Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four and Thor all within a magical heavily inked universe! He can still see his style in elements of his work.
