Rosie Hodson - 2022

Rosie is a Hertfordshire artist specialising in house portraits and whimsical art. After 16 years in the teaching profession, bringing her love of art to the classroom, she spent 20 years running her own early years music business, which was brought to an abrupt halt by Covid 19.

During the months of forced unemployment that followed, Rosie discovered the joys of walking in the beautiful village of Redbourn and the surrounding areas, and appreciating the rich heritage of architecture on her doorstep. There was just one vital thing missing – especially on cold days – somewhere to get coffee!

So it was a day of celebration when walking down to the village high street one day in late May, she found the coffee house had reopened for takeaways! Oh,the joy of that first proper Barista decaf latte after 3 long months! She took a few celebratory photographs of the little shop, and later on that day, dug out her father’s old watercolours and began the painting that would change her life.

After posting a photo of this painting on social media to let people know that the shop was open, Rosie received requests for prints and a request to paint a house portrait…. and ‘Only One Like It’ was born.

Since then her business has continued to grow and develop as she discovers new ways to make people’s homes look their absolute best. Rosie specialises in painting sunlight and shadow, and reflections in windows or water. She combines her father’s skills in architectural drawing with her mother’s love of vibrant colour to produce highly detailed, colourful watercolour paintings.

During 2021 she introduced a new more whimsical style of watercolour paintings on canvases which have proved very popular. Four of these can be seen on her greetings cards. She particularly enjoys finding out the history and stories behind the buildings and writing songs about them, which can be found on her Youtube Channel.
