Margaret Crutchley - 2019

‘A painter who distils the essence of a landscape’ - Margaret loves the countryside and also loves using oil or acrylic paint to produce an individual interpretation of a beautiful or dramatic location. By means of simplification, good composition, bold colour and expressive marks on paper or canvas, she concentrates the visual and emotional experience of the scene. Sometimes bordering on the abstract, her paintings still have a strong connection to the land.

Margaret also enjoys the challenge of painting human and animal portraits. Studies of movement, stance, gesture and features, help her capture, not only a likeness, but also the character of the sitter.

She is represented by Wychwood Art, both online and in their gallery in Deddington, Oxfordshire. This year, for the second time, she has had work accepted for the Royal Watercolour Society’s Contemporary Watercolour Competition, held at the Bankside Gallery on the South Bank in London.

Her work has been exhibited in the Hertford Open exhibition and the Artsdepot Open, where she won a prize for a portrait.

She has completed commissions and sold work in Group exhibitions in London. She is a member of the London Painters and Sculptors Group.
