Jan Munro - 2025

Over the last 20 years Jan has exhibited and sold work in local Society shows and galleries and in the last five years has had work shown and sold at The Affordable Art Fair, London, Hong Kong and New York. Her Work is held in various galleries all over the UK. Jan has won numerous awards including two Best in Show awards at the St Albans Art Society and in Pastel Society.

Jan ran watercolour and pastel classes for adults for 15 years. She now runs workshops in acrylic and collage showing her process in a number of subjects.

Her paintings are made in acrylic, collage and sometimes a mixture of media. She aims to semi-represent a place or thing but also to convey to the viewer her inspiration and feelings about what she is painting. She wants to look beyond the reality. Now she is delving into the abstract process, using her knowledge of design but also her expression of what she enjoys and feels about the various elements of painting.

Composition and design are key elements in her paintings so that there is feeling of balance. Surface textures, marks and colours are used to convey her liking for weathered, old places, with an emphasis on patterns. Jan works hard to master the media that she uses so that the painting seems to flow beyond technique and to be made with a playful curiosity and seemingly without struggle.
