David Nelson - 2018

Dave Nelson is a Mixed Media artist who explores differing perspectives and viewpoints to create entertaining, quirky works. His technique involves working from heavily collaged boards, including materials found on site. He applies materials appropriate to the texture of the subject – acrylic paint or ink, pen, pencil, oil pastels, graphite. These are applied in ways that make the transitions visible – mark-making with all sorts of objects, to inject energy and action to the image. He wants to allow the viewer to understand how the picture was put together. Dave comments, “I do not believe in Artist’s ‘magic’, rather that anybody can be an Artist, and my chosen process supports and demonstrates that to be true.”

His current series looks at London's museums and galleries, the architecture, the art and the people, presented on irregularly cut, quirky boards that invite closer inspection.
Dave has been working professionally for just 3 years, but has already achieved considerable success. He appeared on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2017. His work is in collections throughout the UK. He has exhibited at the Mall Galleries with the New English Art Club (2016, 17 and 18) and the Discerning Eye (2017 and 2018, 6 pictures selected). He was selected for the National Open Art Competition 2017 and the Artists and Illustrators Artist of the Year 2018, and was the winner of the Hertford Open 2014, one of the strongest regional Art Prizes.
