Clare Hogan - 2026

Clare draws much of her inspiration from a deep love of her local surroundings and the natural world. She finds great joy in walking through woods and forests, where she experiences a strong sense of peace. The sounds, scents, and shifting light of these environments continue to inform her work, inspiring its layered, immersive quality.

Her artistic vision is also shaped by the imaginative world of childhood books such as The Enchanted Wood and The Magic Faraway Tree, which sparked a lasting fascination with magical, richly detailed landscapes.

Her art is characterised by a bold use of colour, built through layers of pattern, texture, and tone. She creates her own collage papers, adding depth and complexity to her pieces.

Clare studied Fashion and Textiles at the University of Brighton before building a successful career as a textile designer in the fashion industry. She later retrained as a secondary school teacher and has taught art for over 20 years.

Today, Clare balances teaching with developing her artistic practice from her hometown of Tring. Her early experience in textile design continues to influence her distinctive painting style.
